2015
The Hoopsfix All-Star Classic returned for its second year in 2015, cementing its status as an annual event. It moved to Brixton Recreation Centre, South London, which would become its unofficial home for the next few years.
The event locked in to being focused on junior prospects moving forward, holding an Under-19 and Under-17 mens game, plus dunk contest and morning kids clinic.
The event will forever be remembered for Kyle Carey’s insane poster dunk on the break.
Under-17 Men’s Game
Team White defeated Team Black to win the Hoopsfix All-Star Classic under-17 game in 2015.
Gedi Juozapaitis was the shining star as he produced an all-round display of 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to claim the MVP award in his side’s 100-89 victory.
Last year’s MVP Jelani Watson-Gayle put in another impressive performance, and he finished with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists as well as 3 steals.
Dunk Contest
Doing a dunk contest at this year’s Hoopsfix All Star Classic was always going to be an on the day decision, depending on how many players were up for it – but one of them, Myles Laurent-Smart, was down from Day 1.
The 5’10” lightning quick guard has just returned from West Oaks Academy in the US, and showed off his ridiculous bounce to take the title, beating out Myerscough’s Emmanuel Kabengele and Bristol Flyers’ Deane Williams (who almost took off from the free throw line, but couldn’t nail it to get eliminated).
Laurent-Smart nailed a perfect 40 from the judges on his third and final dunk, as the panel was made up of GB’s Justin Robinson, Ashley Hamilton, Drew Sullivan and Orlan Jackman.
Robinson presented the trophy to Myles.
Under-19 Men’s Game
Kyle Carey shut down the Brixton Rec with an incredible dunk during his MVP performance that helped Team Black to an 85-71 win in the Hoopsfix All-Star Classic under-19 game on Saturday at Brixton Rec.
The England under-18 international shot 8-10 from the field, including a spectacular poster, on his way to 23 points in 23 minutes.
Akwasi Yeboah top scored with 12 points in the loss with Kent team-mate Karolis Kundrotas and Bristol’s Deane Williams adding 11 points apiece.
